When is it worth switching brokers?

I just switched brokers after being with my old firm for a few years. Honestly, it was such a pain moving everything over and getting used to the new platform but the trade execution and extra features + market insights are totally worth it.

Just wondering, what’s everyone’s threshold for switching brokers? How much better does a broker need to be for you to go through all the hassle of moving accounts?

I have only been day trading a year so I haven’t switched brokers yet. If I’m honest, I don’t think I’d go through the ball ache unless it was a major upgrade in platform usability or fees.

I’ve found the learning curve for new platforms is steep enough when you’re just starting out, so I’d need to see some serious improvements elsewhere to make it worthwhile.

Who were you using nd who have you switched to now?

            Hi

I feel you because switching brokers is a major headache. For me, it’s all about execution speed and spreads. I’ve gotta have lightning-fast fills so if a broker’s lagging or their spreads widen too much, I’m out. I’ll put up with the hassle of switching if I can shave off even a few milliseconds on execution time or cut down commission costs. It’s rare that I switch, though – it really has to be a noticable performance boost.

Switching brokers isn’t a big deal if you trade on a well-supported third-party platform like cTrader, MetaTrader, or TradingView.

I use cTrader, and it lets me connect multiple brokers, so I don’t have to change platforms just because I change brokers.

The only ‘issue’ is if you really like a broker’s proprietary trading platform and don’t want to leave it.

I started with IG’s online platform so that’s the one I’m accustomed to now. I’ve spent some time on TradingView but MetaTrader doesn’t do it for me.

I don’t get on with MT either. Have you tried cTrader?

I have not. How does it compare to TradingView? Better do you think?

I use TradingView for all my charting (trade planning) as it’s hard to beat, but I place trades using cTrader because it links effortlessly to my brokers. I also like keeping an eye on the strategies on cTrader Copy.

Funny enough, I don’t like trading directly within TradingView.

I agree with you Christian. I use MT4 now so it’s calm changing providers.
