Established in 1996, Swissquote is a Switzerland-based bank and broker that offers online trading on an industry beating three million products, from forex and CFDs to futures, options and bonds. Highly trusted, it has built a strong reputation through innovative trading solutions, from becoming the first bank to offer crypto trading in 2017 to more recently launching fractional shares and its Invest Easy service.

Trade Republic is a German investment firm, regulated by the Federal Bank of Germany (BaFin). Available in Europe, it has attracted over 4 million users and manages client assets of approximately €35 billion. Trade Republic offers trading in stocks, crypto and ETFs with a minimum investment of just €1 and interest up to 3.75% paid on uninvested cash balances.

Investing in the stock markets carries risk: the value of investments can go up as well as down and you may receive back less than your original investment. Individual investors should make their own decisions or seek independent advice.
Comment by Reviewer
"Swissquote is an excellent choice for active traders looking for a customizable platform, such as its CXFD, which integrates Autochartist for automated chart analysis to aid trading decisions. However, its average fees and steep $1,000 minimum deposit might make it less accessible for beginner traders." "Trade Republic is best for long-term traders looking to set up automated investments (weekly, monthly or quarterly). However, its education and research tools are lacking, support is hit and miss based on tests and only European residents can sign up with the platform."
Pros
  • Swissquote is highly trusted owing to its position as a bank, its listing on the Swiss stock exchange, and authorization from trusted bodies like FINMA in Switzerland, FCA in the UK, and CSSF in Luxembourg.
  • Swissquote is built for fast-paced trading strategies like day trading, scalping and high-frequency trading with 9ms average execution speeds, a 98% fill ratio, and FIX API.
  • Swissquote supports powerful platforms for day trading, such as MetaTrader 4/5 and its own CFXD (previously known as Advanced Trader) which impressed during testing with customizable layouts and access to advanced charting tools and technical indicators.
  • Swissquote provides advanced research services like Autochartist for technical analysis and integration of real-time news from Dow Jones. Its proprietary Market Talk videos and Morning News reports deliver expert analysis daily, appealing to active traders.
  • Trade Republic is trusted, with authorization from Germany’s BaFin, a ‘green tier’ regulator in line with Day Trading.com’s Regulation & Trust Rating, while up to €100,000 is available in investor compensation.
  • The investment offering at Trade Republic is head and shoulders above most competitors, with 8000+ stocks, 500+ ETFs, 40,000+ derivatives and 50+ cryptos.
  • Trade Republic has clearly invested in its mobile trading environment with a sleek and ultra-modern mobile app that features simple navigation and an easy-to-use interface.
  • You can earn up to 3.75% interest on unlimited cash balances with payments paid monthly and zero restrictions on withdrawals.
Cons
  • Swissquote primarily caters to pro and high-net-worth clients, with high minimum deposit requirements (eg $1,000 for Standard accounts), making it less suited for smaller traders who can find higher leverage at the growing number of brokers with no minimum deposit.
  • Analysis shows Swissquote’s fees are on the high side, with forex spreads starting at 1.7 pips on Standard accounts, compared to 0.0 pips at brokers like Pepperstone or IC Markets. Transaction fees for non-Swiss stocks and ETFs can also add up for frequent traders.
  • Unlike brokers such as eToro with social trading features, Swissquote lacks tools for community engagement or copying successful traders, limiting its appeal for those who value peer-to-peer learning.
  • The lack of demo account and threadbare education reduces its appeal to newer traders, especially compared to brokers like eToro with its $100K simulator, zero time limit and stacked academy.
  • Despite telephone and email assistance, Trade Republic still needs to improve its customer support, with no live chat available during testing and a fairly basic help centre which may deter aspiring investors.
  • Trade Republic lacks the comprehensive financial solutions available at alternatives, notably Revolut with limited foreign exchange services, multi-currency accounts, and premium banking solutions.
